*Picture Thread* Weekend project inside.....

I know that several of you are in IT, so I'm posting this in OT as well.

A few weeks ago our boss requested that me and another co-worker (a good friend of mine) take over this project that has been sitting on another IT guys's desk for over a year now, and do it on a day off -Saturday. The job was to "clean up" the server room's wires. This server room has got to be one of the ugliest coldrooms I've ever stepped foot in, in my entire IT career. It's a big project and we're going to have to do it in phases so there is still more work to be done.

It's a small coldroom with only a handfull of servers. It's painfully obvious that there was zero preperation and thought put into building this data center (especailly cable management!). It's hardly anything you would be proud to show guest as they come by for visits (especially other IT professionals).

Anyways, we came in on a Saturday at 7AM and worked until 7:45PM. We never stopped for lunch breaks -we continued working through the day (mainly because we just wanted to finish the job and go home). It might not look like much, but it was alot of work and well worth it. Here are some pictures fopr you guys:

Here is a shot of our favorite method said slacker IT co-worker used to secure a modem in the rack.

Here is a shot of the right side of the rack once I got all the old cables removed from all the ports. We planned on utilizing all new cables (and will canibalize later at the users cubicles). We wanted it to look real shiney and new! 😛

Here is another shot from the ground up. I was working on the very bottom mounting a bracket and looked up and this angle jsut caught my eye. 🙂

Oh, and last but certainly not least. After removing 200+ Cat5 cables, we decided to leave the guy who was suppose to do this project over a year ago -a present for when he arrived on Monday (he laughed btw). He's a huge fan of hot sauces and leaves a bottle of some pepper sauce on his desk for lunch time. Well, if you look closely you can see it resting in the middle....kinda like a nest of spahgetti. 😛

Is he going to want you two to maintain the cables in there as well? Or are you going to print and post the before pics so people know not to be asshats?

one of the best wiring jobs I've seen, you've definitely got some bragging rights there

Hey thanks!

yw. I've done enough wiring to know how much of a pain in the arse it is, and that's just plain impressive.

Oh yeah, nice job too.
