the different colors have to do with the sensor picking up different frequencies. the sensor doesnt necessarily pick up red green and blue, it could pick up varying infrared and UV wavelengths (which we cant see) and when they compile the image they use varying frequencies, assigning each one a different color. for example, vegetation emits a lot of infrared, and they just chose that frequency range to be displayed as green.

What is that word they use when they fill in microscope/other pictures with "fake color"?

Edit: I think it's "false color".

Several years ago I drove Death Valley from south to north in the month of August.
It was 130F, I never shut the car or it's a/c off, the car never got cooler than 90F.
It was scary hot. We would leave the car to look at stuff for only 15 minuets at a time.
Death Valley is like looking into the abyss...look too long and she will draw you in..forever.
