Hi guys... im pretty noob when it comes to graphics cards and everything. I was wondering if somebody could tell me why the wallpaper on my desktop doesn't look like the original image

Here is my desktop wallpaper when I print screen

My Desktop

On the regular .jpg file I used as the wallpaper... the picture was smooth and there was no squiggly lines or trails depending when the color on the image changes... i guess I'm a little OCD but it annoys me

My video card is a EVGA 8800 gts... i have the latest drivers

Thanks in advance

I don't see it being a problem with your graphics card at all...

I'd say that the image is being resized when being applied as your wallpaper. Whats your screen resolution, and whats the size of the image? If they don't match, or arn't very similar/don't have the same aspect ratio, then the image being stretched may give unpleasent results 🙂

You may have selected to set an image as a wallpaper...and in doing so, your wallpaper is more compressed than the original image.

or u assigned something to be ur wallpaper when it was compressed so it looks all pixelated. make sure the setting for yoyur wallpaper is set at stretched.

Please type properly, covert24.

The banding is because of a color depth restriction - is your desktop set to 16-bit color?

I thought this could be the case at first, but considering he sees the original image fine, I'm guessing he'd have to be at a proper bit depth to see the original in the first place ?

thanks for the suggestion guys... thanks peter.. it was set to 16 bit color... after setting it to 32 its fine now.... thanks for the help guys
