the wife is wanting a good program for editing images and photos that is capable of copy [crop] and paste, i know many use adobe but looking to stay @ $50 bucks, it would need to simple to use, for personal use only, she was shown an application called Microsoft Imaging Suite 6 that was easy to use for her but is no longer sold [discontinued by Microsoft], does anyone have any exp with such an application that could make a suggestion, maybe a trail download.

Sounds like she needs a simple graphics program. Why not give Picasa or Paint.NET a try? Both are free.

I'd rather say GIMP,

BUT, +1 vote for Paint.NET. (Their tutorial forums are VERY helpful)

Picasa... so easy, my wife and mom can use it.

And it integrates uploading photos very easily.

BTW - if you have Microsoft Office 2007 Pro, it has a fairly competent program built in called Picture Manager.

Maybe try XnView and Faststone Image Viewer. They are more for browsing photos on your HD but might work, and are simple to use.
