Pics of a tree in my yard that was struck by lightning.

doesn't look like it was struck by lightning, it just looks dead. doesnt look burnt at all... 😕

our house is wierd.. Last hurricane season, 2 days before the hurricane was supposed to hit. One of our sliding class doors completely cracked into a million lil pieces., out of no where, the shutter was actually on it. We had to break it apart otherwise we would have a whirlwind of glass swirling around our house.

i seriously hope no one here reports to the police or tree activists that you didn't protect the tree properly from natural hazard

I live on top of a hill with gigantic trees all over the yard. Lightning does NOT burn trees - it scars them. I can take a photo later if you'd like.

Yep, there are rare times where it will ignite something, but mostly it's just odd shaped scars running down the tree.

About a week ago, i was just watching the lightning outside, and all of sudden one popped right above the canal. I thought it had struck the canal. was pretty cool. Now my mom and i finally came to the conclusion that the lightning had struck this dying tree.
TREE
What its supposed to look like

Take a closer look at the trunk and see if it got zapped. That kind of palm tree has one terminal bud and if lightning hit it, that killed it.

I think the tree needs to be very dry for that to happen. I think most of the time there is enough moisture in the tree that it doesn't ignite, but it will often blow apart from all that water being instantly turned into steam by the lightning's energy...

I'm no expert though...

Or enough dead leaves in the area.
