How do you nuke someone with a nuclear reactor that is used to generate electricity?! Would you strap it to the helicopter and drop it? Or do you think Iranians will build a giant catapult and launch it at us that way? Go back to your wormhole..

I am not close minded nor am I an unexperienced traveler but, I think I would be worried traveling around in Iran.
It helps if you're brown!!!

Not really, the population of blacks there is not very big.. It might help if you are Arabic though. You'll be safer walking around as tourist in most Iranian cities than in some parts of the US.

Great photos . What kind of camera did you use? I am a fairly well traveled person and I must say that Iran is as beautiful as any country I have ever visited. I can't believe how clean it is there. Also, it seems so peaceful. I never realized how many ancient structures are still standing there. That would really be interesting to check out some of that stuff. Unfortunately, I don't think I could ever bring myself to travel there. You can talk all you want about how the people are so nice, but I still wouldn't feel safe enough.

Robert, hopefully peace will come to the region one day. I must admit however that I haven't heard of any violence in Iran. But I'd still be afraid to travel to the Middle East in the current sad times.

I did see a lot of european, russian, asian, even british tourists there. I think more than anything, its the "evil" labels the American government has put on Iran through the media, to maintain its war support, that scares Americans from going there. The rest of the world doesn't seem to have a lot of negative feelings towards Iran. Not being there for fourteen years and being an American citizen, I had a hard time making my mind up about travelling there this summer, but after I went I saw how easy and enjoyable it was. I wouldn't mind living there after retirement in fact!

BTW Robet - the camera is a Kodak DC4800

How old were you when you travelled there? Did you face the problem of them sticking you in the military?

I went there this summer for two months, I have a visa that allows me to stay for 3 months per year without military service.

Wow!!! How did you get that? I've always wanted to go, but I can't because they would stick my ass in the military.

They give it if you have a Iranian passport or even if you are Iranian and were born in the US. You gotta call the Embessy, but since they don't allow one in the US I think you should search for the pakistan embessy on the web and order the forms over the net.

hey novon, can you fill me in on the circumstances of your travel there? It looks like you had a lot of exposure to the upper-class life. Do you have family there and such?

Yeah, my dad's side there is upper class. My mom's side is mid-lower class, and since my dad was an anthropologist there, I also got to see the lowest which are the nomads. So it was a good all-class experience. I gotta say though, life was easy and boring sitting in a expensive apartment downtown Tehran, and life was rough but enjoyable with the Qashqai nomads. There is a certain thing about living simply in nature away from the busy city sounds.
