It'd look like some sort of frankenstein operating room...

Corean (sp?) countertops are the way to go.

Granite is cheaper. There is a local place that sells it for $35/sq ft. Corian is closer to $60/sq ft

Yeah, I like granite personally. When we remodel our kitchen I'm going with granite.

Just have to make sure the cabinets can hold it.

My cabinets are all oak so that shouldn't be a problem. The island might need to rebuilt though, that's a little flimsy in some areas.

Here is a picture of my kitchen. I only have one stainless appliance. No hurry to replace the other two just yet. I'll probably do it before the end of the year though.

It's pretty classy to post pictures of things you've bought and talk about the price.. no really it is.

I am personally a big fan of the over the stove microwaves. Mine is a Frigedaire Gold SS and it heats evenly and does a great job as a fume hood. Maybe later I will get a real fume hood but I doubt it as the convenience of the over the stove can't be beat.

BTW, I am very please with all the frigedaire gold appliances that came with the place. Our fridge is a LG SS but it matches all the others so it's good to go. The whole bottom freezer thing is freaking awesome, so much cheaper to run and it puts all the fridge items at a good height. the freezer is a little tight on space, but thats what the chest freezer is for.

Granite is about 1/2 to 2/3 of Corian price, but it have stain, crack & scratch problems (can be polish out). Corian can scratch, crack, and is prone to heat damage. The cheapest is laminate because it is cheap and can easily be replace. The nicest counter tops are quartz engineered stone, concrete, granite, and butcher block.

It would be nice to have tile back splash.

If I have more time, one day I will built my own concrete counter 🙂

That has to be the most stupid remark yet.

What the fvck does class have anything to do with telling people what you paid for things ??
Most people in here are also hot deal people and they like to know what others paid for their stuff.

I love to know what people paid for stuff and if other don't than who cares ??
But why does that have to be classy or not ??? AMkes no sense whatsoever.

Now if I bought a present for someone and then tell him/her how much I paid for it, the I can see that being classless.

So wait, is this your current house, or the house you're moving into?

I'm living here now and I'm also buying it from my brother.
I just moved back from Cali and I realize that it'll be the only house I can afford.
I've been renting this house off and on from him.

Those thinking about remodeling, here is the kitchen in my family's new house.

Picture of most of the kitchen.

The cabinets are solid cherry, we love them. The countertop is black granite with specs that seem copper and silver in color.

Here is the range and hood.

The range is Bosch, with the hottest burner being 15,000 BTUs. The white knob sticking out is where we are going to add a pot filler this week.

The dishwasher and microwave/convection oven.

The dishwasher is Bosch, and both the microwave and oven are Frigidaire Professional series.

This is the part we really enjoy. The huge seperate fridge and freezer.

Here is a link to Frigidaires website.

We got them both for, IIRC, under $1400.

Just thought you guys might like to see the kitchen for some ideas.

Now thats what I call a kitchen.
Thats super nice.
Replacing the table tops with something black like yours is something I definately must do.
Too bad I can't afford a a >$300K house.

Yeah, we were pretty excited when we got stainless steel appliances. They fit our kitchen quite well. We got a GE Fridge, and Fisher&Paykel dishwasher, oven, stove, and a panasonic microwave. All in stainless steel. Was pretty pricey but worth it.

You guys have to remember this is not a $500K or even $300K house.
I'm getting it very very cheap. Much cheaper than the appraised value.
Alot of things in the house need attention and that will take time.

Hey, my house would sell for almost $600k today. Check out my kitchen in the above pic. It's average at best. Crazy CA real estate prices. Oh well, at least I only paid $220k for it. Our neighbors across the street paid $540k for the same house I have only his needed work...sucks to be him. 😀

You're right about that.
It gets smear too easily.

Thanks. We are really proud of it. I don't think my parents are moving anymore. 🙂

And just to note, we actually had the house built for less than $300k. It helps if you do a good bit of the stuff yourself (my dad and I wired it with cat5e) and have a cost-plus setup with the contractor.

(a cost-plus contract in which the contractor receives a fee based on a percentage of all costs paid for materials and workmanship with no cost limitation.)
