Beagles are cute dogs. They are barkers by nature though. Some of them are also high on instinct, low on intelligence.

There's one in my neighborhood that's dumber than the tree she pisses on :)

Actually, this one's a genius. When I brought her home, she was small enough to fit in my pocket in my jeans. She could lay on my hand with her little legs hangong of the end of my fingers and her back legs hanging off down my wrist. :D

Anyway, we had her in a cardboard box that our 27" TV came in.

We came home that night, and she got out somehow. :Q We had a small stuffed dog that looked like her in there, a hot water bottle, and a clock that ticked for a soothing noise... and she managed to get out of a three-foot box :Q No claw marks on the box from climbing, no toys stacked up inside the box to climb on... box wasn't moved... etc. I couldn't figure out how she did it, until I saw her. She FRICKIN' JUMPED to the top of the box and made one paw over, pulled herself up to two paws, took hold of the chair that was next to the box, and pulled herself out :Q :Q :Q

She's a smarty.

wtf? :p

Anyway, she was the first to play, first to bark, first to run around, and first to open her eyes in her litter. She's VERY athletic. Strangely enough. She's not the normal stalky, short, fat dog that beagles usually are. She's VERY fast when chasing the kids in the front yard, too. :D She's mah baby :)

What did I say? ;) :p

LOL - I'll scan some other images tonight from when she was a puppy. I miss my dog. Wish I were at home throwing her tennis ball around the front yard and wrestling with her :)

Here's a couple from when I first adopted my dog Shadow.

He basically looks the same now... just a bit larger. ;)
I think he's a newfie/lab mix. Hard to see it from those pics tho... can't get him to hold still long enough to take any better ones. :)

Perhaps I should have sold that Kodak digicam to Nik instead of Gregg :D

Very cute puppy, is the only difference between the miniature and regular Beagle, the size, that's it?

My wife thinks Beagle's are adorable also. Eventually we'll probably get one Jack Russell Terrier (I hate lazy dogs) and a Beagle, that should be a handful.

"Miniature" means less than 12" tall at the shoulder, and under 20 lbs.

Things to think about if considering getting a Beagle...

It takes TWO YEARS to potty train a female beagle, typically. Consider that (and a lot of "Weewee Pads") if you're going to get a beagle. The females are almost always more active, too.

They DO NOT come back if let off of a leash if you can't call them back. If they're just running around chasing the neighbor kids, it might be easy to get them back. If they find a scent to track down (anything, and I mean ANYTHING will get their attention), they'll follow it until they find it. That means not eating. That means not drinking. That means not sleeping.

And that means not coming back.

If you get a beagle, never ever ever let them off the leash unless they're in a yard or if you happen to get the rare beagles that actually obeys your every command (VERY rare).

Maybe we'll consider a Boston Terrier instead but I don't want one which will grow to be really pug. Some (very few) of them have not-so-puggish faces but it's hard to determine that when they're wee lil pups.
