*PICS* Half Life: Source vs Half Life

Seems as though it clears up a lot of the audio and movement stuttering. I'm glad Valve didn't try to re-do the original. In all honesty, why should they? If you want better textures, play HL2. If you want to play the original HL1, play HL:Source. It's just an added bonus, not a full product.

I don't think people would complain if they didn't pay extra for it.

Seriously, I paid for the original 6 years ago. Unless there are plans for some other kinds of updates then I don't see how this could be worth any amount of money to someone who already has the first release.

It isn't... that's the point. It's only worth getting if you either don't have the original Half-Life (all five of you out there) or if you lost your original copy. Then, you are really only paying $5 to get it, and it is a great deal.

The thing is I expected the game with high res textures when I bough it, if they had showed some screenies before, I would have gotten the bronze instead of silver. I'm pretty dissapointed by the "remake".

Well, you also get Day of Defeat: Source if you get Silver which I haven't played yet. I guess Half Life 1: Source isn't really worth it for the additional $10 over the Bronze price. Is Day of Defeat: Source worth $10? Is it even out?

Doesn't Silver come with the Valve back catalog? Including the original HL.

Yup, that's my thinking as well.....it's just a matter of time and I expect the Mod. community will be the ones that do it.

It's already being worked on I believe by a mod team. A full port to the new engine, complete with textures, models, etc. I'm not sure about the physics gun though, that wasn't even in the first game. It may cause some balance issues.

Yeah, I've lost 2 Half Life CDs and my Blue Shift disk (along with 2 Starcraft CDs).

I hope that the mod doesn't touch any of the gameplay at all. After all, the point is to 'soup-up' a classic, not to make a new game. Meaning, keep all the old weapons, but make them look as good as the guns in HL2 (or better).

Personally, I wouldn't touch the gameplay aspects, and I doubt the mod team would either. IMHO, updating all the textures and models would be great.

i haven't had a hl cd since i moved to steam. just enter your cd key in there and it's stored. as long as you can remember your user/pass then you can just download the game thru steam.

Valve has already confirmed the Silver and Gold package owners will eventually get Blue shift and Opposing Forces as soon as they are ported over. Not bad for $10 extra, eh?

Opp Force has already been ported.

No way! I loved Opposing Forces and never got around to Blue Shift, so that's awesome for me. Can you download Opposing Forces right now?
