Had our shoot today, did a few things different. Instead of just standing there banging away at steel targets we made some stations and did a Course of Fire. Having people moving with loaded weapons while on the clock is always a recipe for a disaster, so we took great care to make sure it was as safe as possible.
After the shoot we had a free shoot and me and my son were shooting a lever action .22 (Winnchester 9422 to be exact) when a guy sits down next to us with a DPMS AR in 308. Very cool gun, but jesus it has some concussion. My son emptied the 22, I ask him if its our turn to make some noise.

He looks at me a bit confused and says "yes". I went and grabbed the AR, he asked "Can I shoot it?"
"Yep"
So I set it on the stand, brace the gun with the back of my knee (We were crouched down) and held on to the mag to brace it on the stand. He gets down, aims and pulls the trigger. Pauses a minute, looks at me "Dad, we have to load it". "Nope, its loaded, just pulled the trigger"
He squeezes about 3 more off halfway slowly, I tell him "Pull the trigger as fast as you can!"
BAM BAM BAM....
26 rounds later the bolt locks back. He jumps up and first thing he says is "WOW!"

Wow indeed son.
He dumped 3 more mags before we called it quits and I let'r cool down.
I think my son has EBR disease. Which is really bad, because I can barely fund MY habit let alone a 5 year olds habit!

Without further ado....On with some pics.

Shoot Album

The course
The farthest targets are engaged from the beginning position. You move to each station starting from closest to further. First station you kneel down and open the window and engage the targets closest the station, second station you open the window and engage the targets closest that station, third station same as second.

Gettin ready to do my thing

Beginning station
Ran the course with both pistols and rifles.

Beginning again
To give you an idea of the range. Its a bit long for pistols, but still doable.

First station

null

Second station
The targets with orange hands represent hostages. No shoot. Yes, we had a few "HOSTAGE DOWN".....Well, ya cant be perfect every time.

Second station
That guy can shoot. Really frickin well. His friend/brother (Not sure of the realtion) aint no slouch with a firearm either.

Final station

All in all, a very good day. :)
