For those who don't know, Zuffenhausen is just outside of Stuttgart.

(If you're ever in Stuttgart and want to visit, simply take the S6 S-Bahn in the direction of Weilderstadt and get off at the Neuwirtshaus station.)

Once you get there, you can see the official Porsche "showcase" dealership, the factory, and the museum. The museum is nothing to write home about! The showcase dealership is more fun...

Also, for you "Band of Brothers" fans, here are some pice of Hitler's Eagle's Nest near Berchtesgaden. It's not as nice in person as "Points" portrays. (Elevation is 6017 feet.)

I have A LOT more pics from my four weeks in Europe, but I'll upload those to my web site at a later date. I just thought I would share these few now.

(All PICS taken my with my now aging Canon PowerShot G2...due to be replaced soon by an EOS-20D!)

Nice pics.....you didn't get a picture of any BMWs though....I was hoping to see pictures of my favorite driver. ;)

If you recall, in "Points" (Episode 10), Winters seemingly walks directly from a giant circular room (pic 4) onto a massive balcony where we see the other officers drinking. Winters then announces "VE" day. Well first of all, you can't do that. The massive balcony is down a small flight stairs off of another, smaller room which use to be the main dining room of the Eagle's Nest. Second of all, the giant circular room is not that impressive and neither is the not-so-giant famous fireplace with the year "1938" etched into it.

The Americans (probably) removed all the original furniture, and the Germans turned it into a restaurant. Other then the view of Salzburg from above, the visit was a letdown. Oh, and the current elevator is bronze-plated, not gold-plated...and it's built by Otis Elevator, an American company.

What? You want me to take PICS of the Bangled 5-, 6-, and 7-series? The most interesting BMW I saw was a new 1-series from behind as it passed me! Not even the BMW "showcase" dealership near Marienplatz in downtown Munich featured BMWs as it normally does. The "exhibit" was of the new and very sweet MINI Cabrio. But that will just be an expensive cult car. A non-S MINI Cabrio sells for 26,000 Euro over there! And talk about NO trunk and NO back seat. But, it will be an Ultimate Fun in the Sun Machine, no doubt!

As for car pics, I do have a few pics of a Ferrari 550, parked near the famous Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. I'll see if I can upload those tonight too.

We went there too! :D

Except out trip was wet... and didn't include anything to do with Porsche at all. :( That elevator was freaky.

The closest I got to any supercar there was this and it was in the wrong country.

More pics...

PICS of a Ferrari 550 parked on the former Eastern side of the famous Checkpoint Charlie. I really like how the red contrasts with the darker tones in the the fourth pic:

What did they have in the "showcase" VW dealership in downtown Berlin? A mock-up Bugatti Veyron:

Of course, next door, Audi had its showcase dealership featuring the new A8L W12. It sells for some 126,000 Euro over there:

Last but not least, it was fun taking a quick tour of the ultra-modern VW "Glass Factory" in Dresden:

BR: That was two years ago when I visited the Ferrari factory & museum in Maranello. I posted my pics of the Enzo after that trip.

Yeah, I've been to Mercedes in Stuttgart, BMW in Munich, Ferrari in Maranello, VW in Dresden, Porsche in Zuffenhausen...I guess the only big one left on my list is Audi in Ingolstadt. Though visiting Lamborghini or Lotus might also be cool.

Back in 1984 I went to Berchtesgaden. Tried to get to the Eagles Nest but it was closed that week for some repairs. Went and checked out the Salt mines ( right across the border in Austria ) and took the tour. Love to get back there again. I was in the US ARMY at the time and had a few days to cruz around after Reforger training that I was there for. Did make it to Munich for non other than the famous Oktoberfest !
