I have wanted to post these for a long time but just never had the time to take newer pics and get them online, etc.

This system was 100% done by me with no outside help. Including planning, design, shopping for the parts I didn't already have and installing/tuning I have about 200 hours invested in this thing. I still have room to carry stuff back there. With the cargo cover retracted, I can carry gear for four for a week.

I realize it rates low on the "Geek Factor Scale" due to no video or PS II, but; 1. I didn't want it and 2. Even if I did, there's no more room!

I've been into car audio for 18 years. I think I've done well with mid-price components. Tell me what you think.

Nice clean install. I use to run a JLw3 too...but switched to 2 IDQ SVCs awhile back. Both subs are pretty similar. What did you use to cover the mdf?

Thanks for the compliment. :)

I bought 4 yards of matching vinyl from a "Jane's Fabrics and Crafts"...embarassing going in there, but I knew they'd have it. The vinyl is a perfect match for the interior. :)

Grand total? Sheesh, I don't even know! Let me think....

Probably around $2500-$3000 or so. Including everything; equipment, wire, interconnects, shrink tubing, MDF, vinyl, etc. And a whole lot of my Blood, Sweat and Tears. It's worth it though. Concert hall sound on wheels. :D

I love the false floor, and you did a great job on the enclosure. I am glad to see you used MDF too :) I hate it when people use particle board. You also did a great job with making the MDF curve around the wheel wells too

That is an awesome install! No rice no flash, just a nice clean setup... I love it! The fact that you did it yourself is sweet too. I love the satisfaction of people asking "Where did you get that done?" and you say you did it yourself. I take no pride in shelling out a couple grand to get a system, because there's no effort.

Anyways, props to you for a sane/sweet install job :D

It looks great buddy! Wish you were in my neck of the woods. I had Circuit City install new speakers and a sub for me. I'm very happy with the system. Fortunately, they'll take my gear back out when I get a new vehicle. I may not remove the speakers, but I'm certainly taking the sub with me.

Do you still have the stock speakers? Don't leave your hard-earned gear in there!!! I had to do that once b/c I had cut the door panels for tweets. It hurt leaving a 2-way components set in there. :(

Speakers are easy to swap out.

It had crossed my mind, but:

1. I'm too old. You need to start in the biz (i.e. start making contacts) in your early 20's or younger...I'm way past that..
2. I have a career and a p/t job already...no time

I do help out friends w/their systems. But, doing that is much like building a PC for friends/family....free Tech Service for life.

and that stinks, you know?

Very nice install, if you looked under the seats of my Dakota and saw all the spaghetti you'd probably keel over laughing.

One of these days I'll have to ask you to help me figure out where to put a small sub in my standard cab Dakota. Not a "thump thump" sub just one to go down a little lower than my 5 1/4" and my 6 1/2" MB Quart component set-ups.

A small-space 10" would fit the bill nicely. There are plenty of small-airspace requirement 10's out there; the problem is constructing a box skinny enough to fit behind the seats of a regular cab truck.

Have you looked at the prebuilt boxes made by MTX/JLAudio/etc? I know for a fact they make them in abundance for every Amercian vehicle. A single 10 w/a 200-watt amp would provide some serious thump in a small airspace like the cab area of your truck. :D

sweet.. michael..

I bookmarked it because i got to show it to a friend.

I plan on doing some work on my ford focus.. (adding a sub at the minimum and possibly a 10cd MP3 changer out back). I want to put a DVD home theater in teh car but not until I can get the LoJack and Alarm Installed.

I've had a MTX thunder 2160 and a MTX active crossover sitting on a shelf collecting dust for a while. Problem with most premade boxes is that they require you to move the seat forward. I was thinking about getting one of those 10" or even 8" square solo-barics and making a downward firing sub with spikes to sit on the hump. What do you think?

BTW - it's a '91 Dakota, not too much pre-made for it.
