Pickup truck drivers are idiots

Major pet peeve of mine, and its always a truck, the larger the truck, the more pronounced these issues are.

1) They inevitably drive 5 to 10mph UNDER the posted speed limit everywhere. When I pass these morons in the right lane doing no more than the posted speed limit, there's a problem.

2) Large trucks will usually be straddling the painted lines on the road, both the center median and the lane markers. If your vehicle doesn't fit in the designated lanes, you either shouldn't be driving on that road or shouldn't be driving that vehicle. Usually when this happens, the idiots are actually going faster than than the posted speed limit, and will run me off the road as they fly down the street.

3) This happens with loud, diesel vehicles. They will go through the drive through lane are various fast food restaurants and the attendant attempting to take their order will be unable to hear them over the sound of their engine. Despite the attendant asking them to either shut off the engine or pull ahead to the window, they'll just shout louder at the mechanism, usually getting angry at the attendant. Eventually, they'll pull forward, but not until the line has wrapped around the building.

Sounds more like morons in your state, not pickup truck drivers in general. I don't notice truck drivers driving any different than others around here.

True, drivers in Phoenix are generally worse than most places.

Edit - And I never got into how their oversized vehicles also always have 1 occupant, an empty, pristinely clean bed, and block the views of people needing to make right turns when the truck is in the left lane.

Sounds like you are a tragic victim of second-hand diesel emission madness.

Your blood has been irretrievably poisoned and your mind clouded beyond redemption.

Looks like fast-food really is bad for you. :(

I find it tends to be the people with the trucks that obviously aren't used as trucks. I live in Tempe and the people in the lifted diesels with shiny rims that have obviously never seen dirt are usually the obnoxious ones. The guys in the stock trucks that show signs of actually being used as a truck (haven't been washed and waxed religiously, junk in the bed, a scratch or two, no modifications just for show, no obnoxiously loud exhaust) usually are perfectly fine.

<---F250 diesel owner.

You're welcome.

And you forgot:

The huge grill guard I use to bull my way through intersections when assholes ignore red lights.

The space I take up in parking lots

My massive turning radius that makes most u turns a 3 point turn that disrupts traffic

That I stick out 3 feet further in parking lots than everyone else.

The way I crowd sorry ass car drivers when they try to jump in line when traffic is merging.

Thank you for clarifying my position. This more accurately describes the idiots I encounter daily.

Don't believe 'moose for a second, OP!

The F250 and the constant string of hot babe conquests are all an elaborate subterfuge for Pliable's deeply homosexual yearnings.

He has no daughter and the Miata is strictly for him!

And I have it on good authority that he dresses up in a nurse's uniform on a near daily basis! :p

haha I noticed the opposite here. They tend to drive like maniacs and nearly touch your bumper if you're not going 20 over the speed limit.

Then there's kids in very small underpowered cars that try to show off that they own a car, and there's black smoke coming out of it. Yeah, that's real cool. GJ on passing me and wasting about 5 bucks of gas, now we're at the same red light. :p

I saw a pickup truck the other day with a bumper sticker declaring, "I am not a Republican." I thought it was kinda funny.

The problem is your drivers, not their vehicles.
Most guys in my town with F-150's or above routinely drive 10mph OVER the limit, not under. They love their 300+ horsepower, trust me.

Also, diesel engines do not make any more noise than gasoline engines. If you heard a V10 gasoline engine I seriously doubt you could tell the difference.
Same with smell. A V10 using gasoline spews just as much shit as a V10 using diesel. The problem is, almost nobody has seen one to provide a frame of reference.

In Europe small diesels are much more popular for family sedans and such. They make no more noise and produce no more toxic shit than their gasoline brothers.

Heh, yesterday that was the female SUV driver for me. I think it's really just confirmation bias though. Yesterday I was following a safe distance behind another car and the driver behind me was literally less than one car length behind, at 70+ mph. Then a couple miles later she went to pass a semi trailer on the right that didn't see her and ran her onto the shoulder. I almost called the cops and reported her license plate because she was driving like a crazy person and I was afraid she'd hurt someone, but she started to cool down after her little brush with death.

I can't say I've noticed truck drivers being worse than any other. However, I have noticed that South Florida drivers are, by far, the worst drivers I have ever seen.

See, I was driving home last night and the idiot in the giant truck was speeding and weaving in and out of lanes, cutting in and out of the carpool lanes. I kept hoping he'd eat it and roll that giant piece of shit.

my only problem with pickup truck drivers are the ones that drive those really wide ones and can't even stay straight in the lane

This. Modern full size pickups are massively overpowered. Those turbo-boosted power-stroke deep-throb engines are awesome.

If you'd get your slowpoke butt out of the left lane, I wouldn't have to pass you on the right.

Pickup drivers drive slow in Phoenix because they are higher off the ground and can spot the photo radar from farther away. Damn Phoenix is lousy with photo radar. I was reading the story about the guy in the monkey mask racking up 39 outstanding speeding tickets from photo radar. It sounds awful until you count the radar sites. He could get that many tickets on two and a half cross town round trips. Phoenix sucks hard.

If people actually drived the speed limit it would not be a problem. :p Though some speed limits ARE insanely too low...

I drive a Nissan Titan. I drive it the same way I drove my Mustang. Type of car doesn't influence whether or not you're an asshole driver.

I drive a Frontier. Not 'full-size', but it's bigger than most small trucks. It certainly hasn't changed the way I drive (within reason).

Oh, and while I do take care of my truck, I also use it (haul things at least a few times a month, and going to get a tow package in the next couple of months). The people that buy F-450s and have yet to *ever* haul or tow anything, at all, get on my nerves.

I'm definitely inclined to believe that Phoenix just sucks.
