After months looking on the net trying to find out witch monitor to buy. I desided to ask in this forum. I hate the fact you cant "try" the monitor out before buying it. So i pretty much wanna be sure what monitor to buy before I waste 1000$.

I always been a big fan of Sony products mainly because their CRT screens where very good, and there design attracts me.

My needs.
Min. 1600*1200 resolution.
I need a good gaming monitor.
Work home to so offfice produkts have to look good.
DVD movies, not the biggest needs here since I use my regular TV for that.

What I have been looking at:

Sony STYLEPRO SDM-S204B
Samsung SyncMaster 213 T
Dell UltraSharp 1905FP

I hope some of you have the time to drop by and share me your experiances.

the dell 1905fp has 1280 x 1024 resolution. replace that with the dell ultrasharp 2001fp, which has 1600 x 1200 resolution.

out of those choices, none of them beat the 2001fp in price and performance ratio. also, you can often find great deals on dell lcds in the hot deals forum for under $500, much lower than your expected budget :).

What I really fear is ghosting. So if the alternative is Sony PREMIERPRO SDM-P234 or equal expensive apple. I will take that into consideration. I rather use 2000$on a good screen then 1000$ on something that irritates me each time I play a game.

google for reviews on the 2001fp. they should mention the ghosting on this screen. if i recall from many members who own this panel, the ghosting is very minimal.

My 2001fp is in a box waiting for UPS to come by and send it back to Dell. This is a very fine monitor.....except I could never get use to the brightness, especially in combo with small text. I switched to large fonts and turned the brightness down....even went to the XP display panel and fiddled with it. Still got headaches and eyestrain. Regarding gaming, no problems at all except for UT. Too fast for the monitor to keep up. Of course blacks are not very good....but this actually helps for a dark game like Doom. Interpolation is outstanding. A NEC/Mitsu monitor is on it's way from Newegg ($.99 shipping!!!!). I use a NEC at work and really like it. If you have a minimum 1600 resolution I suspect your eyes find it agreeable and if the brightness doesn't bother you then the Dell might be a good fit.

You know you can go into nvidia or ati's panel and turn down the brightness through software right? I have my monitor set at 0% and nvidia panel brightness is 90%

ghosting is inevitable on any LCD, for gaming 16ms and under is playable it all just depends how picky you are. of course you could go with the 2001fp which is probably the best choice price/ performance ratio. you might want to watch out on the 2405fpw, i heard its an 6 bit panel. and a monitor thats a little more expensive that might be worth looking into is this one SONY SDM-S204E. also the 2005fpw is a great monitor but does not have the landscape the the 2001fp has but is widescreen.
