right now i have a 2000 honda accord LX 4-door, and im getting another car in about 2 weeks and my mom is going to drive the accord.

right now, i have narrowed down my options to:

1998 Chevy Camaro Z28
5.7 liter V8 (LS-1)
6 speed manual
65k miles

or

1993 Mazda RX-7
Twin Turbo
5 speed man
60k miles

Im leaning towards the camaro...what do you guys think?

btw, im turning 19 this year, freshmen in college. car will mainly be used to drive me from san diego to LA every weekend and back.

you're going to pay a billion dollars in insurance. the camaro driveline is bulletproof. turbos are far easier to kill (did dude use a turbo timer?)

oh, and that rotary is almost impossible to find a decent mechanic for.

RX-7 is my fav car of all time, and thats why im considering it...
but i really doubt its reliability, and i know maintenance cost will be high.

about the long drive, i know a person with a 99 camaro z28 and he can get over 25 mpg on highways in 6th gear. i dont really care about gas costs that much...i just want something fun to drive =)

Insurance costs a lot for 19 year olds. I'm 19 myself and through a series of options, I pay about 740 a year with AAA. Although, the fact that I drive a 93 camry might have something to do with it. A luxury sedan or coupe thats a little heavier but has more power will provide you with some fun. That, or you can get a lighter car that'll let you pull tight turns and handle your way to a quick death. Whats your budget? Maybe we can help more. You'll probably be able to get like a 1994 BMW 300 series.

yeah, the z28 will just loaf around in the economy gear.

Oh yea, and a good thing you're in So Cal. There are few rotory engine mechanics around, and the few are usually concentrated in the LA area with a couple in the bay area. Other then that, you'll have to go east coast (washingtong dc I think).

Heh if you go with the RX-7, be prepared to spend an assload of money every 40k miles.. i mean u see them in papers with 60k on them 'engine rebuilt'. why? caus they fail a lot. and as said, good luck finding rotary mechanics. do yourself a favor and go with the camaro, a real V-8, torque monster
