Picking NEW 20" widescreens

Asus has just released their new 20" widescreen. It is $550 on Newegg

Here is a Review of it. It sounds like a very nice monitor.

LG has their new 20" widescreen also at Newegg for $360 from the specs it looks really good. The contrast ratio is 1400:1.

I like both of them. The ASUS because it is beautifull, and has more connections that the New York Mob. I like the LG because it looks to have excellent image quality for a great price.

Let me know what you guys think. (xtknight I am looking at you).
Thanks

The PW201 will be a fast display with accurate colors, but judging from the pics on Les Numeriques, the viewing angles are quite pale: http://www.lesnumeriques.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=150&mo1=114&p1=1145&ma2=35&ph=1

The LG on the other hand looks fast but it's still a TN screen, also meaning subpar viewing angles. It does have the dynamic contrast adjustment feature. The LG will probably be faster overall than the Asus. The Asus will lag behind in certain transitions like all the VA screens do. I do think the LG has the better performance/price ratio, but that all depends on what features are important to you (inputs?) Whatever the case, the LG is certainly the cream of the crop for TN displays.

That ASUS is way too expensive for those specs. The LG has a chance though, if its contrast ratio is anywhere near as good as the NEC.

Why is it sooooo hard to find a monitor that has everything I want in it? I want a good looking monitor that with good contrast ratio no black light bleeding and alot of connections. I don't need a really fast panel because I do fine with the Dell 2005fpw and don't notice screen lag. I do though want a very flexable stand. I want to be able to bend it anyway I want.

To me both LG and Asus have the most attractive displays on the market, next to apple of course. The Asus is superior to the LG, because of what xtnight said, it is in fact a TN meaning much less viewing angle and worser color uniformity, which I dont think any ws lcd should even be allowed. The Asus is somewhat of a price gouge based on its minor plus features, like its stand, camera, spkr and better build quality. If i had that kind of money i would go with a Samsung 215TW, cheaper and offers 21" inches of ws viewing but with the same resolution as a 20.1". It plays off the attached speaker better over the PW201 imo, the Asus makes the bezel too thick, you should also try more resellers other than limiting yourself to newegg. Best part about it, you can pick it up at your local BB for $549.99 and try it out.

I hate it's lack of adjustiblity and the fact that it reflects. Not only that but it's price is way too high.

The LG looks really nice, but LG makes the 2007FP/WFP panels that have the horrible banding problems. Would this one be any different?

ohhh didn't know this. That would be pretty bad. I don't think that they would band because the Dell's problem I thought was with the electronics they put with the panel. Not only that but they are different panels.

So you complain about not being able to find a monitor you like and then claim that the one that does work is too expensive? The reflect issue shouldn't be a problem unless you have an open window right next to your monitor.

Yes that is right I don't like the NEC. My reasons are that I don't find it attractive, I don't like its lack of adjustablity, or the fact that I can get a 24" for the same price. I also have a window behind me not to mention lights that I use when looking at the monitor, so ya it will reflect. The fact is that the NEC won't work for me. Now if they droped the glare screen and added a stand with movement like Dell's and ASUS plus droped the price alot then we may have a deal, but I doubt that will happen.

Just a suggestion but as far as the room lighting and window light goes you can adjust that with blinds/shades, moving monitor to face window or other direction, moving lights, and etc., The best 20" currently availble IMO is the NEC followed by the ViewSonic. You arent going to find a LCD with all the bells and whistles you want for a low price most likely. More features cost more money. Every monitor has its pros and cons of some type. Meaning you have to compromise somewhere.

I don't want to have to adjust all those just to look at my monitor. I think I will go with the Viewsonic alot of people are happy with that one and it is alot cheaper.
