Picking an Android ROM

I now have SlimBean 2.6. Seems fast. Not to crazy about the default theme. Seems to plain or colorless compared to the original Android Samsung 2.2 rom. Any suggestions?

Just noticed I didn't have a cell connection. I went to the APN settings and there is nothing there. So I created a new one for straight talk and hit save. But it still doesn't connect and their are still no apn's listed even after I just made one and saved it. Any hints? It also lists my IMEI as unknown.

YEah, CM and AOKP are not bloated at all. LOL. The stock ROM on my Note is over 500MB. 500!!! ALL the ROMs on XDA I have found are under 150MB. I'd say that's pretty amazing considering it's debloated and gives MORE functionality than the stock 500MB ROM.

I have tried a couple ROMs as small as 75MB, but I've stuck mostly with CM ROMs (running CM10 Oct5 nightly right now, sweet!).

Don't listen to these lies of bloat. Definitely spend some time testing a few different ROMs, nobody can tell you what the best ROM is since that varies a lot based on a lot of factors. Which source it's based on, the kernel, your particular phone, your taste, etc.

That's the one thing with flashing ROMs, there are always bugs. Did you wipe the phone before installing the ROM? Sometimes not doing that can make things get wonky.

The problem was I missed a step. You must flash CM then SlimBean. SlimBean is so slim it doesn't have a modem, so no cell service. Going to flash back to stock and hope it all works. Then if stock works flash to CM9 stable. Then maybe SlimBean assuming I can find a theme for it. I just didn't like the default theme for SlimBean. The XDA forums really praise LANIGHT for its speed, so I my try it also.

Got it to stock 2.3.5. I will try CM9 stable next weekend. But atleast I didn't brick it on my first flash.
