Picking a next gen console w/ questions asked;

I am looking to buy a next gen console. My wife likes to play certain types of games and I really enjoy sports games such as Madden, NBA 2k7 and the likes, NCAA. I know the Wii is better probably in terms with the wife's gameplay. Does the Wii have all the sports simulations that xb360 and ps3? Also how are the Ps3 and Wii online capability? Do you need a HDTV with a Wii? Is it beneficial? Currently do not own HDTV, but would consider buying one if needed to

if you are on a budget, the Nintendo Wii seems like the perfect fit for you guys. Madden is definitely as interesting play on the Wii. But if you have the money, I would definitely get the Wii60=Nintendo Wii+Xbox 360. You can play with your wife on the Wii and play your great sports games on the 360. I wouldn't recommend the ps3 right now because you currently don't even own a HDTV and your wife probably wouldn't be playing much with it or you -_- good luck!
