Picking a new monitor

So I started looking around, in Holland mind you, newegg is not an option for example. I'm currently on a 1024*786 so I want something that is a noticable improvement, and I doubt that a 1280*1024 screen can do that for me.

So heres a little list of what I found, and is affordable. I can spend anything between 150-250 euro's. 250 is pushing it, 225 would be better.

1: X202WAL2016Ws
2: AL2016WB
3: SyncMaster 931BW
4: SyncMaster 205BW

Some questions though, widescreen or not ? Glossy screen, some people hate, some people love it, not sure where I fit in hehe.

The screen will really be for all kinds of PC usage, gaming is important though, as is watching tv shows like heroes/lost etc on it.

I really don't know to much about monitors. What I want in the end is something 19inch like, that can handle resolutions of up to 1600*1200. I've got a 8800gts 320mb, so much higher resolutions would be a bad thing, coz the card won't hack it :p

Is the Acer AL2051W available there? It's a big step up from the rest, in that it is an 8-bit panel.

19" widescreen (1440x900) is even smaller than 1280x1024 by area, but that's alright as long as you're aware.

Sadly no 19" LCDs do 1600x1200.

There are some 20" monitors (204BW and 206BW at least) that can do 1680x1050, which is the standard resolution of 22" screens. They're about $200USD but I don't know how much they are in Europe.

Could you explain in what way it's a step up, because a 8 bit-panel really leaves me clueless :p

And yeah I only realized later that no 19inch screens can do 1600*1200, this one, AL2016WB, is 20 inch though, and goes up to 1680*1050. Same for this one, AL2016Ws. I guess I'm really looking for something at 20inch then ^^

The Acer AL2051W costs like 290 euro's and up, and is not really an option. I know I spend 270ish on my videocard, but I don't have a tree growing me money, for this one I'm slightly dependant on the generosity of my parents, since it's going to be for my birthday. Their generosity isn't to bad, but doesn't extend past 250, or even 200, but I'm willing to add in some money myself :p

New List: Let's say I'd have to pick 1 of those. I only looked for acer/samsung right now, not sure what other brands are good and trustworthy. Of course I know philips and LG and stuff, but then the list could become endless. These screens are 20inch, some are widescreen too. The response time should be low enough to avoid ghosting. The samsung 205bw is the most expensive I'm willing to go. And keep in mind, often prices in the US don't correlate to europian prices, like the Acer AL2051W for example.

Why don't you take a glance through the LCD Thread? 8-bit is described there (best color reproduction of consumer LCDs).

The 205BW is the best of those you listed, though, by a good amount.

wow I completely overlooked that thread somehow. Sure has a lot of information on it. I guess I'll look up some of the recomendations. And the 205bw is looking pretty good right now.
