Those of you that have Domain names and websites. How did you come up with the name.

I want to get another domain and can't think of anything.

think of random words, maybe something that describes you, like noob, idiot, diamond member... combine it, like say didiot, or diamonoob or moron.com

Make sure you know what you want to use the domain for BEFORE you pick the domain name.

Create a subdomain on your current domain and just move the blog there. Don't tell anybody that you've done it and don't link to it from anywhere.

Much better decision.

There are some great domains that recently expired. Find a free listing at http://www.fixoftheday.com/, forum registration is required but it's free.

A few months I found two domains that just expired, registered them for $8.88/yr and later sold them for $300 total.

eCommerce

How did you sell them? Just put up a contact on the page after you bought it? And someone just contacted you then?!?

as long as it's easy to remember, you're good to go.

Which means...
no numbers that aren't relevent
-(as in "Jnetty99"... but something like cloud9 or something would be)
only dictionary words
-no abbreviations of words (don't use "blk" in place of "black")
-exceptions for made up words that are relevant to the group you cater to or a company name

Keep it simple. You should be able to tell someone over the phone or on the street and have them remember it an hour later. Nobody is going to remember "MisterStink-EPants4423.com"... but people will remember "MrStinkyPants.com"

A domain name typically, but not always, is related to the topic for which the domain will be about. Start there.

Yes and no, I listed them on some domain name forums.

Received a few offers then a serious offer to get both for $300 paid via wire transfer. 12 hours I had my money and "pushed" the domain through NameCheap.com

K, thanks for the info. It's all clean as long as you don't try to get any 'trademarked' names, right? Like nothing brand/name specific that you have no affiliation with?
