I got it at Walmart for $261 (sitting in the clearance bin) it was brand new and I just wanted something basic 'no frills' because I no longer had a laptop since I sold my 10 year old iBook. I booted it up and sure enough, it seems to be a pretty quick laptop for the price.

Do you think this was a good buy or should I return it?

the battery life isn't great or anything, but it is much faster than anything you could expect to get for $261.

Any new laptop for less than $300 is a very, very low price, and I'd say with a dual core CPU and 3GB of RAM, you got a bit more than a basic, no-frills laptop. (I still see single cores with 2GB RAM available for sale at big box stores.)

They sell those AMD C-50 dual core 1ghz processor laptops for $280. When I seen the Athlon II and 3gb of ram and a 7200RPM drive, that's when I knew to jump on it. It runs very stable and cool.. nice laptop for a rebadged 'B stock' HP. lol
