Picked up Final Fantasy XI

Couldn't resist with the $5 Ultimate Collection on Steam. Does anyone around here still play? Are there any decent servers left? I'm excited to start playing.

I played on Pandemonium sometime in 2003 or 2004. Tempted to go back even though I hated it at the time (pre-Rise of Zilart) just because of the price... though this time I'd go onto a European server.

For friends to join up with you, check out the FFIV thread. There is some FFXI discussion ongoing there and you may find some people to LS or partay up with.

There really isn't such a thing, if you didn't remember that; XI servers are all multi-regional.

I played before FFXI was released in Europe so I assumed they had Euro servers. Ordered myself a copy from Fry's in America, had it shipped over here.

I reactivated my account a few months ago, but canceled it already. I love the game and had the itch to play, but it's so outdated. Currently waiting for FFXIV (been able to play the beta once) which is only 2 months away.

Yeah FFXI even when it came out felt a bit dated (due to it's PS2 intended limitations after all). I recently played a few days of Lineage 2 for free just for kicks which I felt was horribly outdated - and even that engine was newer and more streamlined than FFXI's.

I have some good memories of the game - and I'll leave them at that. Revisiting it will just ruin things.

If you oversample the graphics on a beefy system it actually looks pretty decent. The Storyline is great, the learning curve is alot easier now and xp is very much easier to come by after 56.

Im playing some now going into abyssea a couple times a week. Nice to be able to jump right in and get good stuff.

So I jumped on it...

I couldn't remember any of my details to reactivate my old account (which I probably stopped using in 2003) so I've regged up a new one.

Now, as much as a I love Steam and hate PlayOnline, my FFXI is updating about 18,000 files and has another 8 hours to go... I thought Steam would have had this all up to date?

Can't complain too much but I rather lose a days gaming 🙂

I'm tempted to play again too just to mess around for 2months until FFXIV comes out. I had the most immersive experience with FFXI out of all the MMOs I've played. The maps and areas were beautiful and I liked the music too. RDM still is the most fun class I've played in any MMO, was my main class and I got it to 68 before I stopped playing Pre-Zilart expansion. I wonder if I can reactivate my old PlayOnline acct and have my 68 RDM waiting for me (probably not as SEnix prob deleted him 🙁. Jeuno.

The issue would be finding your old PlayOnline ID no?

How could we go about finding that?

Do you remember if your PlayOnline ID was a username you made or some arbitrary sequence of letters/numbers? I guess I'll have to see if I can dig up my college-days emails lol.

It was some random numbers/letters. Makes it very fun when my emails only stretch back to ~2006 🙂

If you remember your name, adress, credit card number you used last, phone number you registered on you can reactivate your old account. Call their help line and they can do it for you. If you know your POL ID and password you should be able to do it in a few mins..

When you get it installed make sure you do the reg edit graphic mod I linked earlier. It will Drastically improve the visual experience. The game looks pretty decent with lines 3 and 4 set at 1000.

I played just the core game shortly after it's release years ago, eventually canceled, but I ended up buying the pack like most in the thread.

Took me overnight to update it, so I've yet to actually jump into the game, but I was wondering if the best way to play is using a gamepad because of it's ps2 origins?

Hey so if anyone wants to get a party going let me know what server.. I'd be down for anything I just want to make sure there'll be folks around to team up with.

I wrote my information down in the manual as they told you to, and I went trying to reinstate my account during their whole "Welcome back to Vana'diel" thing, but it seems they permanently deleted my information, because even with the stuff I had written down, I couldn't access my account. It's a wonderful feeling that you pay $50 for a game when it comes out and they just bend you over first chance they get.

Hence, why I won't trust them with FFXIV... Squaresoft had no sense in how to administer the MMO and I doubt they'll change their account policies.

I think back when I played (just before Chains of Promathia, after Rise of Zilart) they had a 90 day period of inactivity before deletion. Perhaps we were deleted and lost to the ether whereas in more modern times we would have survived.

Oh yea, I remember reading that in the terms. Oh well I guess there's a pretty slim chance my char is still available. At this point it's not worth it for me to start from lvl1 and hit up Valkrun Dunes etc. so just going to wait til September (I think that's the release date) for FFXIV.

April 2009 I recovered a character from an account I discontinued in Summer-Fall 2005.

They definitely keep them.

And I played pretty extensively last spring, some friends of mine picked it up and I decided to play again. I still think its a really fantastic game, a very unique experience. It is, and always has been, kind of 'clunky' but I really enjoy how deep the gameplay is.

One of my absolute favorite things about the game is that it's so very massive (in a good way) that to this day there are still things about the game that are unknown or not widely known. Where certain items drop, how to beat or find certain NMs, new party camps or farm sites off the beaten path; there's still exploration to be done and there's still mystery to the world. I love that; it's really kind of a buzzkill in games like WoW (for me) where everything has been done time and time again and every miniscule detail of the game is so well documented.

Many fond memories from both my first time and second time playing. Highly recommend playing with friends though, it alleviates so many headaches (mostly involving party comp and getting enough people).

I reactivated my account of 4 years last year in March and haven't stopped playing it since. Those of you saying it looks outdated, you need to know a few things. First, what manimal said is true. You can tweak the registry files and the graphics looks 10x better.

2nd, you may want to look into windower. It makes everything much enjoyable, google it and its plugin's. Its not just for window mode anymore.

3rd, since I've been back to this game (i had no level 75 character at the time), they released sevvveral updates that added a lot more items, mobs, quests, missions, etc. And they recently upped the level cap to 80 and plan to go to 99. A lot is going on, mainly because of pre-14 release and to try and retain most of their ffxi customers. Great move on their part. I continue to play it as this game has soooo much to do. A true never ending game imo. This will prolly be my last mmorpg as they are all time sinks.

edit: i'm on the Bahamut server, one of the few that never got merged and finally opened its doors.
