Picked up another one

Well the gun show was in town again, and while there I picked up another "collectable". It's a 1944 Mosin Nagant M38.

Not mine, but a M38

This is to complement the M91 that I have had for quite a few years now.

Again, not mine, but a M91

Just thought I would share with you guys who are interested.

Update:
Took the M38 to the range last night. This thing is a blast to shoot. The muzzle flash is about 1 1/2' in diameter and the concusion shockwave afterwords will rattle your internal organs. When I fired the first shot, I had people coming over from the other booths trying to figure out what the hell just went off. It was that loud. It does kick a bit harder than the M91, which was to be expected, as it is a smaller, and slightly lighter gun. For being over 60 years old, it was still a very accurate weapon from the short distance that I got to fire it (the indoor range I go to is a max of 25yds.) I plan on taking it out to the outdoor range this weekend to see how well it fairs over longer distances.

excellent guns. how much does ammo cost you?(or maybe you're smart and you dont shoot your antiques)

Is the M38 in a correct stock or M44 stock?

Mosins are addictive, I think I have 20 or so currently.

While the gun(s) may be old, it's definitely not fragile 🙂. Both take 7.62x54R ammunition, which runs ~$130 for 880 military surplus rounds.

AFAIK it is in the correct stock.

Is that the corrosive stuff? I know that they are "supposed" to shoot corrosive ammo, but I avoid that stuff like the plague. I guess that I don't like being forced to clean my rifles withing ten minutes of shooting.

So, how much does a Mosin Nagant go for? I have seen them for about $110 at a local store, but I have no idea if that is a great price or a terrible one.

Ya, from what I have read, all the ammo available for it is corrosive, so you have to clean after every shooting. Not a problem by me, as I have a habit of doing that anyways for all my other guns. I picked mine up for $125 OTD @ the gun show in great condition.
