Pick the next city to tumble into oblivion.

Detroit took some time but it's now defunct.

What's your guess on the next US city to hit rock bottom? There's no real time table on this, so let's just put the cap at 30 years, i.e. 30 years from now, <insert city here> will be present day Detroit.

Florida. I'm sure eventually people will give up and stop rebuilding each year after the hurricanes. Disney world will move to Texas or something. Actually, wonder how Disney copes with all the hurricanes. It's not just any random contractor that can rebuild a bunch of roller coasters and other rides.

is new orleans too obvious?

haha I was actually going to say that. But are people even living there now? Figured it was game over after that Levi broke. I sure would not want to go live there knowing that my house is guarded by some underfunded dam.

Not all of it is below sea level. Besides, New Orleans is a natural port at the end of one of our biggest inland river systems. It isn't going anywhere - just may get a little wet from time to time.

Really the only cities that will mimic Detroit's fate are other rust-belt cities. Anything else - say smaller towns centered around a certain business/factory - are too obscure to mention.

Probably Las Vegas

I don't really see how they can keep an economy going there. I think the casino building is going to massively slow down for a long time. I don't really see much more growth there. I mean besides the casinos what the hell does that city have? Casinos can only sustain so much. I don't see what even keeps people there.

Well Vegas has some of the best entertainment there anywhere in the world.

Seriously where else can you watch a man get chewed on by a tiger that got one of it's testicles squished and the crowd claps? 😛

Doesn't Vegas have a problem with water shortages...? I could see there being a issue with it in the future if that's true.

As a Vegas resident - that is just a minor inconvenience compared to the other problems this city has. With nothing to build, a massive illegal community drawing on city services, and a city council that dedicates itself to dealing with 'morality' issues and waste money on building new offices, Vegas will be another Detroit in no time at all. Already there are large neighborhoods that have gone downhill due to houses being foreclosed on and being sold/rented to the lowest dregs of society.

I read an article a couple years back about Vegas. The gist of it was that it was already grossly overbuilt and unsustainable. The author predicted it would collapse within a few years. The article was written in the 50's.

Add another vote for Vegas here. The filthy bastards in politics down there have been trying for years to steal water from where I live in Norther Nevada. They thought they succeeded, but a judge has just thrown out the state engineers decision. They've been trying to cause paranoia with 'water shortage' for years. Its funny that currently, every other lake in the Colorado River system is at or near capacity with the exception of Lake Mead. The Southern Nevada Water Authority keeps the lake low on purpose. The head of the SNWA recently said on radio that Vegas was gonna burn and there wouldn't even be enought water to put out the fires without the water from Lincoln and White Pine Counties. How's that for paranoia for you.

Phoenix. It's job market depended on a continouly rising housing market. While less publicized than the financial issues in California, the state's budget is imploding.

You laugh but seeing them shut down 2 clubs for being too "obscene", close down the topless pools, and even remove the stripper-mobile from the road while allowing card carriers on the strip...yeah...there are my tax $$$ hard at work.
