pick the mustang

Trying to help a friend out with a question. Answer the following for a friend. He is going to buy a mustang and he likes new edge ones (1999-2004). He has two he likes. One is 2004 GT 40th anniversary in yellow with 60k miles for $7k and the other is a 2002 GT Dlx with 17k miles in black (Roush front bumper spoiler, K&N air filter, dual stainless Magnaflow Performance exhaust, and aluminum pulley system) for around $9k

the yellow one needs two new tires, and otherwise is stock with the exception of an air intake. The black one the only issue is the cd changed (factory) stopped working. The black one is in pristine condition (9/10) and the yellow is about (7.5/10)

I know he values something with low miles and close to stock, and has no real color preference.

Which would you choose, and what are some things he should look for when making the decision. (Sorry I don't know a lot about ponies)

17k miles on an 02 is rather low.

Up the budget and get an 03-04 Cobra.

The 2002 may have low miles, but 9K is too high for that gen mustang.
If the 2004 is in excellent condition then 6K-7K might be reasonable.

I was thinking the same. The seller may have put some money into it, but that was for him, not necessarily for the buyer. With such low mileage, I would also be a bit leery of how well that car is has survived sitting for most of its life.

well, he bought the 2004 GT 40th Anniversary edition in yellow with 62k miles for $6,000. It was in very nice condition and had barely any rust whatsoever. Drives very nice and only needed 2 new front tires.

actually, there is a funny story along with that. I recently was going to buy a miata, but the deal fell through at the last minute.. I actually went with my buddy to get this car and told him if he doesn't end up liking it..I will buy it from him.

Curious, why's that? I've got my ideas of why I don't like it, but would like to hear yours. The dakota I just got has a kn housing on the cleaner, but I haven't opened it yet to see if that's actually inside. Too hot to be screwing around with cars.

Multiple studies have been done on K&N filters, especially their 'high flow' oiled filters, that show the high flow is a direct result of almost no filtering. If someone is clueless enough to put something like that on a vehicle and potentially damage it, you have to wonder what other compromises they may have made along the way in vehicle maintenance in the pursuit of "more powah!"
