I'm looking for input on the tail lights on my truck, so I thought I'd post my very first poll.
I have these surface mount LED's in hand so that is what I'm going with. Bear in mind the stock bumper is getting replaced with a wood one that will go to the edge of the box, right under the lights.

Option 1)
angled in to the sides. I have heard it rounds off the look a bit.

Option 2)
Angled out.

Option 3)
Slanted with backup light at the bottom.

Option 4)
Same angle, but with the backup light in the middle. This might look cool at night.

There you have it. thank you for your input.

Did you try any mockups with 2 of them vertical and 1 horizontal across the top or bottom? Maybe like the brake lamp across the bottom, then the backup on the inside and the signal on the outside sitting vertically on top of the brake. If i had to pick one of the ones you have up i would pick 3, it seems to look the most balanced to me.

I can't say I really like any of them.

With the first, the angles don't really seem to fit with the space.
The second is squinty/angry to the point of a caricature.
Third says, "Droopy," to me. (Agree with styrafoam that it's balanced, though)

Fourth wins out by process of elimination, not due to any particular positives.

Mounting them horizontally across the bumper might work better, with maybe just one vertical red light on each side?

Edit: Or maybe no lights up there at all.

A little muted flair... (maybe just a centimeter or two too low)

I'll come back to these tomorrow.

LOL @ Mike!
Thanks for mocking up all those others. I like angry, WTF is your problem man? :p

I tried this, but the lights are too low for the wood bumper I'm building.

I can use the space to the inside as well.

Angled the other way?

I want to keep them higher than "in the bumper" to be a little more visible.

The angled ones look awful imo.

Perhaps a different set of lights would look better? Maybe find some from another vehicle from a junkyard that look cool?

Something like this:

I have thought about other lights, but I have these and plenty of other things I need to buy. The nice thing is they are a surface mount, so only a couple of screw holes and a hole for the wire to plug if I change my mind.

Eh, I don't know, while I'd say some look a bit better than others, can't say I find any of them that great. I think this would be something I'd decide on after the rest is finished.

The oblong shape just doesn't fit the rigid creases of the wood, and yet its not different enough (circle/sphere) to contrast well either.

It might be the chrome surrounds that's causing the lights to just not look right either. Maybe sand those and paint them that same accent color the wood has would make them look better?

Oh, and what about the two red vertical above the backup light placed horizontally?

I can pop off the chrome and it will be black underneath. It hides the screws is all. I will use nice stainless screws for that.

Option 4 looks best IMO. 1 & 2 look horrible...like an afterthought or a child put them on there.

Can you show us one with them all mounted horizontally?

Look a couple of posts down, but I am running out of room for that option because of the bumper I will be building. that factory one is just on there temporarily.

win. you should have had a 5 option on the poll, straight ....i call it nothing crazy just normal, but the light on the bumper doesn't look good at all there.

I'd probably say I like this one the best so far. Option 3 and 4 from the original are second, and a wash between them.

A single big red cirlce and a smaller backup light I think would look best, or maybe two medium red circles and that backup light placed vertically would be good too.

Hmm. This is tough.

I like options 2 and 4, with a slight lean towards option 2.

1 and 2 are out for me, i like 3 the most and 4 next. personally, if i were custom making a service body truck, id custom make the lighting as well and not use any of those configs.
