I tend to run my tv 24/7 so I need something that is going to hold up well over time. I'm thinking about this one but I don't know what sort of rep the OLED's have in terms of longevity.

One of the reasons I tend not to turn the tv off is because I use it as a second monitor for my HTPC and when I do it kind of screws up the other display. It's not really a big deal since when I turn the tv back on things go back to normal but I just either forget to do it or don't want to be bothered.

However the current tv is a older Sony that lets me just turn off the picture. That doesn't affect the desktop arrangement so I can turn it off and on with no issues at all. The above model doesn't have that feature but I have had such bad luck with Sonys that I'm reluctant to try another one. If I do, I'd only do it with a 5 year extended warranty.

I'm not what you would call a high-end consumer but I would like to get the HDR features of the newer sets which I think started showing up last year. I often struggle to make out scenes that are gray on black. Otherwise I'm not terribly picky.

Get the OLED. Don't use it as a PC monitor. Use it for movies and video games. Get another cheap monitor for $300-400 to use as a second screen.

Solved.

I like the way you think but the problem is space. I just don't have any place to put another monitor. But beyond that, I use the HTPC with the big screen for video so I need to have it connected.

Eh, well OLED definitely is the best picture quality. My OLED tablets are better movie viewing experiences than LCD tv.

Burnin definitely is a problem with them. But...just get a full array local dimming LED tv. Can get one for under 1k now, and they have good contrast and black levels. Not as good as OLED, but still pretty good and no burnin worries.

Well, I decided to shoot my load and get the E6P. It's coming Monday. According to LG, the OLEDs are supposed to last 100,000 hours or 30 years at 10 hours per day. I got a 5 year warranty on it so I guess we'll see.
