Pick me a PSU!

MDE

Musts:
400W or higher
at least two SATA power connectors
24-pin ATX plug (an included 20-pin adapter would be nice too)
Quiet (dead silence isn't important but it has to be as quiet as my current Antec True380S)
Under $80, cheaper is better though. I'd consider something a bit more expensive if there was a good enough benefit though

Don't need:
Lights
Modular cables (wouldn't mind it though)

I'm thinking about the Antec TruePower 2.0 430W, anything else better in that ballpark?

the choices above are all great recommendations, however if silence is also important to you, then this one is WELL worth the extra $ spent

Like I said, quiet is important but not silence.

what kind of system is this power supply going to be powering, I'm sure you don't need 400W

Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2.5GHz
2 Raptors, 1 250GB Maxtor
1 CD-RW, 1 DVD+\-RW
Audigy2 ZS
BFG 6800GT @ Ultra

The PSU is overheating trying to keep up with the power demands of the system. It was fine in the winter but whenever I try playing a game with the CPU also running at 100% I can hear a hard drive literally shut off and turn back on over and over again until the system locks up and reboots. If I disable F@H it'll make it through whatever game\3d app I throw at it. I need a new PSU for one of my systems anyway so I figured I can pass the 380 down to my P4 and put it back in the case it came with.

Agree with the above post on the Seasonic, they are great and quiet, I have tried a few so-called "silent" PSUs and they are anything but.

The Seasonic is nice. Never hurts to get something quieter than what you'd normally accept, and they're supposed to be high-quality units (never looked inside one myself, can't say for sure).

If it's actually the PSU, it's probably defective. A system like that shouldn't stress a 380W PSU. I'd advise caution if you want to put it in another system.

I was deciding betwen the antec tp2's, modstreams, enermax whispers, seasonic s12 and fortron.
In the end, I got the fortron blue storm 500, and I love it

The room was hot enough to the point where I was sweating sitting with a tshirt and my old high school gym shorts on. I can try to RMA the unit to Antec, but I'd need a replacement in the meantime, so I still need a PSU.

Your first choice of Antec TruePower 2.0 430W is the best choice. There is nothing better and more reliable than Antec. I have seen ridiculous amounts of Antec PSUs, and 1 has does, and it was from a surge... stupid Electricity company :|

I see that you are overclocking both CPU and GPU. I would highly recommend nothing less than a 500w single rail PS with at least 28a on the 12v rail. Whoever said 400w was too much is badly mis informed.

Most of the PS's recommended in this thread are dual rails with less than 20a on the 12v.
The Antec 430 has only 17a on each rail and a 60% efficiancy rating at 30c, which means less than 12a actually available. I worked with a guy the last three days here who is currently RMA'ing a 430 ATX 2.0 as we speak, because it won't support his overclocked 3200+ and 6600gt which pulls all its power from the mobo.

I have worked with at least 5 people in the last couple of months who ended up RMA'ing their low amped ATX 2.0 dual rail PS's and replacing them with single rail PS's and in all cases their problems went away. Whoever specified the ATX 2.0 standard for enthusiasts boards with SLI and high end GPU's should be shot. IMO the only dual rail PS's I would consider for a gaming machine are the ones rated at 600w or over and have 20a or more on each rail

I ordered the Antec, but I still have time to go for the OCZ and still get the rebate if the Antec doesn't work out.

ocz modstream 450W
or powerstream if you prefer...i like the modstream because you dont have to have unused power cables in your computer

If you had another suggestion please let me know in case the Antec doesn't work out.

I've got plenty of room at the top of my case to hide extra wires (Antec P160).

Here's my biggest complaint with the modular approach...voltage drop. The contact resistance at the back panel of the power supply will result in a noticeable voltage drop at high current load (0.2VDC drop at 20A with a contact resistance of 0.01 ohm).

I prefer all power wirings to be soldered DIRECTLY to the PC board.
