2.seagate baracode (st3800 11a) "access time=8.5"
3.wester digital caviar(800bb) "accesstime =8.9"
cosidering that the 3 has the same rpm&buffer (7200 , 2mb)

Maxtor and WD are similar in speed, the Seagate will be the quietest but slower.

I vote for maxtor... my 6y120p0 is from the same line as the one you mentioned (the only difference being that one is 80gb and is a retail version). It is barely slower than
the western digital and is much quieter. Also, i have found maxtor drives to be much more reliable than western digital in my own personal experience.

If all are 2MB drives and similar in price, Seagate.
For 8MB drives, WD for the warranty.

I'd say Seagate or WD, just because I've had very bad experiences with Maxtor.

It's strange how people's mileages with various makes differ. I myself have never had a Maxtor die on me, nor a Seagate (although that's just one drive, a 420Mb clunker that's *still* going after five years!). However, I've had two IBM Deathstars die, and you have no idea how many Fujitsu drives I've seen die at work- approx twelve in six months. All from Tiny (UK make, terrible OEM), same size, same model. Urgh. That was one baaaaad batch.

Oh, and I'd flip a coin between Maxtor & WD; the WDs I've installed for people at work have always been good, but I love my 120Gb & 60Gb 7.2krpm Maxtors :)
