It's mostly based on the numbers people have been taught are 'good' or 'lucky', namely 3 and 7. Basically based on religious grounds.

Well 7 is my favourite number, but I have never heard it being a religious number. It has been my favourite number for as long as I can remember, and my uprising was not religious (thank you mom and dad for that).

Vague link
3: Holy trinity
7: Resting on the 7th day, 7 plagues, etc.
6 is a number of man, so 6 * 7 (42 for those who can't count) is a meeting of the humanly and godly.
Etc. Load of BS.

alright guys thanks for posting in the thread.
basically i just wanted to prove my teacher and my entire class wrong. they said they were 100% sure that in a random test, most people would pick 7. they claimed that they were SURE over 75% of people would pick 7.
i could not think of a better place to go than ATOT to get a poll. thanks for participating.

What I meant was that I didn't know that stuff when I picked 7 as my favourite number as a kid (dunno how that happened), but I do know it now. I wasn't really exposed to religious stuff as a kid, so that couldn't have affected my decision.
