read from slashdot that it comes with tons of spyware / popup windows generator. Given that it's by Google, I had my doubts, but I'm not going to try it. :)

Doesn't seem to have any spyware in it. It tries to connect once or twice to the Picasa servers but any decent firewall or a visit to Tools->Options can stop that.

It creates nice HTML albums.
It finds all pictures on your harddrives (nearly instantly) and sorts them logically by date in an easy to browse manner.
There are picture enhancements.
You can order prints cheaply and instantly through it.

In google fashion, it seems to be a way to manage pictures and media scattered across your drive in a seamless and quick fashion.

that pisses me off

What are .psd's?

Something proprietary?

Use jpg, gif, or png.

PSD is photoshops uncompressed file that saves layer information

it says it supports them, but im guessing only 8bit PSDs and not 16bit PSDs

complaints about the software already:

-no way to list file names along w/ thumbnails
-no way to select multiple albums and move them to a seperate collection (wait maybe there is, I clicked on
"picture manager" but now the program is not responding and taking up 100% of my cpu time. I have less than 4 gb of pictures)... okay n/m, there isn't a way.
