You may recall me asking about ventilation for this critter in a previous thread.

Anywho, here's the cabinet in its current state.

I still need to finish sanding and make a door for the lower left bit (which will house HTPC and other stuffs) as well as a frame to hide most of the TV other than the screen.

 Ironic. I've been considering the same type of project but since my woodworking skills are questionable I will probably just buy a new entertainment center when I am done with my den. ;)

I have the Samsung HCN4226W from the Sears deal (42" widescreen). The lower bit of the cabinet is basically as high as the optional $100 stand so should be at ideal viewing height once my butt is on the couch. :D

I'm going with a pale oak stain. The cabinet is reasonably nice birch plywood, so I don't want to cover it with paint.

Cost = $400-ish for materials and such (3/4" plywood is $)

Time= three solid days working from about 9am to pretty much 9pm. We finished up last Wed night around midnight doing the wiring for the outlets.

that actually sounds kinda fun. i would kill for a project to do over this boring summer. our receiver, dvd player, htpc (in the making), vcr, cd player and all that stuff is 15 feet away from our actual tv since theres no room by the tv to put all of it.

BUMP for doing something constructive

That's pretty much why we made this thing. I wanted all of my stuff in one spot with doors to keep my daughter from mangling any of it.

I can give you a basic how-to if you're somewhat handy. It really wasn't complicated, just time-consuming to make sure we got all the cuts right and kept everything level and square.

There are another four in the lower left cabinet as well. You just can't see them as I took the pic at an angle.

We actually used a biscuit joiner to put most of it together. :D

Wow! Did you actually own one or did you go buy/rent one?

Did you do this instead of Dado-ing?

Dad brought his down from Indy. Pretty handy little gadget; you get joints that are mostly as strong as a dado or dowels without all the hassle.

How did you attach the facing pieces? Are they plywood as well?

How do you install the rails for the adjustable shelves?

Trim is 1x2's attached with glue and brad nailer.

Used a router to make a slot for the rails so they'd sit flush and then just nailed them in.

Believe me, I'll take some. I'm overhauling the whole room to become the HT den. I also installed flush-mount speakers on the opposite wall for rear surrounds. Not quite as nice as your setup, but it'll do for now. :p

Wow, it's looking great, Fausto!:) I really like the recessed shelf brackets; nice touch. The choice of quality Birch wood was a very good idea; not cheap, but a very good idea. Yous gets what yous pays fer.

*sigh* I look forward...no, I DREAM of when I finally stop moving around and get back to Texas to settle for good.

Your ET is coming along nicely; it's going to be beautiful when completed. Thanks for sharing w/us.

I'm itching to get it finished so I can crank up some DVDs. The room is on one end of the house, so I can be pretty loud without disturbing the tot. :D
