I'm a heavy metal drummer, and I've always wanted to learn Piano and my pop's keyboarder is a professional piano player & he asked me to pick a few metal songs that he could teach me on piano. The thing is, I don?t know any! (Off the top of my head). If yall could throw down some suggestions I?d gladly appreciate it.

I love classical piano but it?ll be 5+ years before I get into that and my pop?s keyboarder knows I?m a heavy metal drummer and so he asked me to pick a few metal piano tunes. It?d be awesome to play piano to the tune of some great metal songs (not death metal, but stuff like Metallica/Priest/Iron Maiden), but I can?t find any in which I could just make a simple CD of it and take it to his house so he could hit play and duplicate it in front of me.

So, yall got any songs that come to mind?

Thank ye much!

Not metal, but Serj Tankian's new album has a decent amount of piano in it (specifically "money" and "sky is over"). Children of Bodom has synth keyboard in it, but it's not for beginners at all. Also you can play the part of the clean guitar from Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" on piano and it'd sound great.

Yeah, the costumes are weird and cheesy, but the drummer/pianist kicks ass.

(piano parts at about 0:20 and 4:15)

Wow.

Japanese metal? I had no idea.

Pretty badass tho, LOL. Reminds me of Dragonforce, haha.

A lot of power metal and melodic death metal has keyboard parts. Some bands to check out: Sonata Arctica, Dark Tranquillity (more specifically their latest album "Fiction" has a lot of keyboards), Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Ensiferum, Stratovarius.

Trivium uses some piano. The first song of Ascendancy is basically just an intro though.
I love how they start you off with some smooth piano action, then rip out with the second song.

A few favorite songs ....

Opeth's Blackwater Park Album Songs The Leper Affinity & Patterns in the Ivy both have piano/keyboard parts played by Steve Wilson (of Porcupine Tree/No Man/Blackfield.) (probably my second favorite album of all time ... second only to Morningrise)

Ayreon "Elected" ... it has a piano version of their song Day 6 Childhood from their album The Human Equation.

These guys are really cheesy, but I like the ballad Courage by Manowar ... it's got a nice piano part.

Dude, you must check out Opeth. Their keyboarder is amazing. He uses alot of 'piano' sounds. Listen to the last minute of "The leper afinity". And tons of other songs. That's probably not the best one.. just the first thing that popped into my head. There are many others.

A number of masterpiece songs on the Edge of Thorns album by Savatage, and the keyboard parts aren't too complex but very melodic and beautiful.
