Pi is neato

Searched the forums and didn't see this posted:

TheInquirer.net has a funny article about a web page that displays pi by hogging up your CPU.. I figured I'd try it and see if I got locked up, but my computer is still loading the page no problem. It hasn't slowed my other web browsing down a bit.

I figured that most of us here with their good computers wouldn't have a problem loading it...

EDIT: Had it going a little over 15 minutes now.. It's still chugging away.. Computer doesn't seem to be any slower. yet

EDIT2: Checked task manager... It's using 380mb of memory right now.. and going up. 😉

EDIT3: Computer as slowed down to "slow as fvck".. While scrolling in the loaded pi page, I found an error in the digits. I'm gonna try uploading the pic.

EDIT4: here's my error.. notice how it looks inconsistent 😉 pi conspiracy

Pi is lame, it gets all the attention when it is e that is the coolest number of all.

No it is i. 😀

Pfff, the number i can't even decide whether or not it exists. Truly pathetic if you ask me.

WTF is "the number e?" 😕

e = 1 + 1/1! + 1/2! + 1/3! + ...

and that e is the limit of (1 + 1/n)^n as n tends to infinity.

If you try to write it as a decimal, you find that the decimal expansion never ends and never repeats; instead it's an example of an irrational number.

Euler gave an approximation for e to 18 decimal places,

e = 2.718281828459045235

lol it's supposed to lock you up? this page just keeps filling up with thousands of numbers very quickly on my machine here... if it's calculating the digets of pi, maybe I'll discover a new one 🙂

Dude that is what's soooo cool about it!
😉

e is the base for natural log. It's also useful when calculating continuously compound interest rates A = P*e^(rt).

Ok, so when does it stop loading? Ever?

Technically, it shouldn't ever stop.... but, lol.

If it takes forever, I shall let it load forever. 😀

Look at your CPU usage. It is literally going to keep going forever. It just keeps calculating the next digits.

Coolmon says my CPU is chugging along at 12% usage. No big deal.

The CPU usage is coming from all the work your browser has to do to render the ever growing page.

I wish I could get the source code to that script, it is truly an amusing waste of time and resources. 🙂

(btw, wget says the page is about 283 MB altogether)

Mine is at 100%, and it's definately taking it's toll on my system. Things are getting slower the longer I let it go.

I'm on a K6-3/400 @ 450 though.

Are we sure that its actually your CPU thats calculating the next digits?

I've got a steady 50k/sec transfer rate goin on with the site.
