physics question, about sound waves

the position element for a sound medium is:

s (x,t) = Smax Cos(kx-wt)

i take it Smax corresponds to amplitude but my questions is, how did this relationship come about:

Smax = [(I)/(2pi^2*rho*vel.*f)]^.5
