Just downloaded the latest critical updates for XP from Microsoft. Rebooted and kept getting blue screen with error report. Down below is a timer counting in seconds and saying "physical memory dumping to disk." Well I did a restore and now have had 3 sucessful boots... What is a physical mem dump??

When WinXP crashes or has a severe error, by default it copies the contents of RAM to a file on disk, called memory.dmp in the Windows directory. This can be used for troubleshooting if you knew how to read it or if Microsoft support asked you to send it to them.

althought, for the most part you don't need any dump, let alone a full dump.. here's how to shorten the time or turn it off

control panel > system > advanced tab > startup and recovery section > settings > write debugging information section

goes fast to slow, top to bottom

i tend to keepmine on small mem dump (64K) ever since win2000 liked doing those full dumps

This happens when you have crappy ram, IRQ problem, and possibly even a bad NIC card. I've seen several customer have this problem.
