a baseball is hit at 30 m/s at an angle of 53 degrees, with horizontal. immediately an outfielder runs 4 m/s toward infield and catches the ball at the same height it was hit. what was the original distance between the battter and the outfielder.
 
Find the time the ball is in the air (t)

Then multiply the horizontal velocity of the ball by t, add that to the velocity of the outfield * t and thats your answer
 
Use your Kinematic equations to find how long it was in the air, just take the vertical component of the 30 m/s to find v in the y direction. Once you have the time find just multiply that way the speed in the horizontal direction. Also multiply that time by 4 and add it to the distance traveled horizontally. If you need to take into account air resistance you shouldn't be asking the question here.
