Is it possible to get PhysX running with an AMD card? Or to buy a cheap secondary Nvidia card and off-load it to that? I like what I see in the Borderlands 2 PhysX demos, but I don't really want to lock myself into an Nvidia card just for that.

@jvroig
"Your primary card also needs to be Nvidia. I'm not sure if this has changed recently, but I do not think so"
Not necessarily ,there is hack for that.

Sure there is. My answer is the official answer, which is generally the first answer to give to a routine question.

I've heard of a hack to make this function available on users with AMD cards as their primary and an Nvidia card as a phys-x card. Thats all i know though.

Yes, I vaguely remember it was just one release version that nV somehow failed to lock, but the next version promptly fixed it. Way back ~2010 I think?

there is a mod that works with recent drivers. Google hybrid physx and you will find all the answers you are looking for. If you still have questions you can ask me specifics and I can answer them, or try too =).

I run a lightning 7970 primary and gtx 460 hawk talon attack for physx.

**edit

Here I did the leg work for you

What he said.

Resetup my Hybrid PhysX setup for this game, not sure if the old mod isn't working, or perhaps my 9800 GTX+ can't handle it anymore, but my FPS tanks once liquid PhysX comes into play.

EDIT:

I notice Afterburner is reading no load on my 9800 GTX+, ran Batman:AC to test, and the mod is working, but not sure what is going on with BL2:

railven, did you delete the physxdevice.dll file in borderlands? That could be what is holding you up

Yeah, I did, before doing that I couldn't even change off Low from the settings.

Reading the thread some more the original author (GenL) stopped working on his mod.

I found a different mod, that had interesting instructions, but I was able to figure it out:

Still taking a huge perf hit with PhysX on High - going to guess my 9800 GTX+ isn't going to cut it anymore. Will test one last time on Batman with this mod, see if it works there.

So, I have a GTX 460 that I lent a friend, who said he'd be buying a new card (he's yet to do so) or I can pick up a GT 640 or for $30 more a GTX 650.

Hmmm....

Tight squeeze in my case right now, I'd want to get a smaller card/cooler card for this, but with PhysX being like a once in a blue moon - it doesn't feel worth spending $100+ or angering a friend haha.
