PHP Email Form

I just finished creating a PHP email form which I'm about to upload to my web-server. It isn't anything fancy, just some basic fields a user fills out, which is handed to a PHP script, etc.

What I'm wondering: How does PHP actually send the email? Doesn't it need an email box to send FROM? Or does it just somehow create SMTP packets and it magically makes its way to the other mailbox?

I'm a networking guy, so this is all a little confusing for me

If you have made a contact form so users can send you email by using web form. Then you need to specify your email address where emails should be sent. You don't need to make another email for script to work. Usually the script sends email from info@somecompany.com then user replies to email and gets info@somecompany.com in their To: field.

So the address info@somecompany.com is real mailbox.

Thanks for your help. Ended up being a server side issue that caused PHP to not function.
