Photoshop trouble w/ new pc

I recently bought a Dell xps8500 refurb from new egg. I also got a samsung pro 256GB SSD. I cloned the original HD onto the ssd with the software provided by samsung. The machine booted fine from the new drive and I am
now using the old drive as my data drive.

I use this machine for image editing...mostly photoshop. It is an 17 processor
w 12g of ram. I am running photoshop CS2. It has not been ideal. My editing
usually involves opening multiple jpegs..about 50 15mb files at a time and running thru them quickly one by one. The problem with this new machine is that as I continue editing thru the group...the image windows start to "blink"..in other words vanish momentarily as the file is saved as if I am short of memory or processing power. Rebooting the program solves this temporarily..but it comes back again soon. My old machine with only 4 gigs of ram and a dual core E8500 processor never did this...although it would start to run slower with multiple files.

Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? It seems like a cache is filling up as I go along and that slows the process down. I know my CS2 can only use about 2.7 gb of my ram.

Just open 51 med jpegs from my 5d mark3 (31mb ea) and started to edit....everything was great and stable for the first 23 files...then it started to blink and hiccup again.
by blinking I mean as I appy actions...the file disappears from view momentarily...sometimes the pallet windows blink too.

Well...the video card is integrated in this computer...what should I do? Maybe buy a cheap card and try running thru that?

Yes, but I would try to invest in a decent card. To rule out a memory issue, you can also try pulling half of the RAM out and see if the problem persists. If it does, replace the RAM and pull the other half out to see if anything changes. I'll bet this problem disappears with a decent video card though.

Good luck.

Here's a response from an Adobe staff member regarding CS2 and Windows 8 i found on their forums:

It is extremely doubtful there a reports that Photoshop CS2 even has problems running under Windows 7. I would recommend that you evaluate the current version of Photoshop CS6. You can find more details at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopfamily.html?promoid=JOLIW. Perhaps you may want to even consider Photoshop Elements 11 if it meets your needs for photo editing?

My guess is that you weren't using Windows 8 on your old Dual-Core system?

Upgrading is another option, though I would only do so as a last resort.

One other workaround would be to run CS2 in Virtualbox (should work perfectly on a Windows XP image). You would lose a bit of speed from emulation, but it should be more than adequate for most needs.

Still not sure its a video card problem....seems to be some bottleneck in the system...
sometimes when initializing photoshop when I try to open a bunch of files..it hangs up for like 30 secs before the files start to open. When I try to save files...the save window delays like a half sec...my old computer is still much snappier in response.

Sounds like it's getting hung up checking for some non-existent network resource or something... Try disabling your network adapter and see if the behavior changes.

I tried disabling the adapters and bluetooth....did nothing....maybe it has to do with imaging the original drive instead of a clean OS install? I have tried disconnection the SATA drive entirely...no change. I did a performance check on the SSD...everything seems ok. Is there anyone in South Jersey who would come over and sort this out for me? I will pay.
