Photoshop problem of weirdness

So I finally made a splash page that I like for my personal website.

I went to export it (save for the web in photoshop 6.0) and noticed the preview looked like crap (the colors were off).

Being a fairly experienced photoshop user, this didn't phase me. I checked the mode I was in - yup, RGB color. Okay... Then I checked save for the web settings - jpeg, maximum quality, okay...

HMMM

So I tried using save as... and then jpeg. I viewed it with windows picture viewer. Still looks like crap.

Now I *KNOW* jpegs can properly display RGB colors, so why on earth isn't this working for me? It's like its compressing my RGB down to 256 colors. :(

I use another program, but did you accidentally imbed some funky color space in the image maybe? Or maybe it's just gettting compressed to much.

you need to use the adobe gamma corrector that was installed with photoshop. open it and follow the on-screen instructions.
