So I have an AMD X2 3800+ @stock and when I use photoshop... It never utilizes both cores :(. It only uses one, anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks :)

In the task manager it only goes up to 50 percent for cpu usage and never past that.
If it utilized both then it'd be running at 100% :(

Default affinity should be both cores. Also, you can change Task Manager so it gives you a per-CPU usage meter.

I'm not sure that all of Photoshop is multithreaded; also, older versions definitely aren't. Are you running CS2?

1.Which photochop version are you using?

2. When you start photoshop it does it detect the 2 CPUs?

3. Did you upgrade your CPU after you installed your OS from single to multi core?

4. Did you upgrade your CPU after you installed Photochop?

ALL these are reasons it might not be using both cores...

Why would it use 100% of your CPU? Ur CPU is more than fast enough to run photoshop nicely. In task manager under performance, is the 'CPU usage' graphic showing two columns or just one?

Try taking a huge image and running some complex filter over it that could take at least a few seconds to compute. These operations should be multi-threaded. Regular Photoshop usage probably isn't.

You have the AMD dual-core patch for windows?

NT has been SMP-aware since it's inception, no patch will change that. As long as the OS sees both cores they'll both be available to all processes that want them.

Yep it shows two cores.... I want it to use 100% cause its not using my computer to its full potential. IE: when I want to Merge several pics into HDR.... it takes a while... instead of using only 50 percent of my cpu's capability .. I'd rather it use it to its full potential so it would finish quicker.

PS mostly doesn't use multicore processors. Pretty much only a few filters due use it, will be the same for the future CS3 release too. It will utilize up to 32 cores I beleive adobe said, but only when it is using a small handful of filters.

Why not call Adobe support and ask them and be sure?
