Photoshop help: editing Postscript files EDIT: fixed!

My prof gave us a picture in the formate of a Postscript file. I need to make some changes to the picture, so I loaded it into Photoshop.

But the picture comes out like this: odd

I know the actual picture does not have the checkerboard pattern though. And it's really hard to edit the pic with that pattern in the background... can anyone tell me how I can get rid of the background checkerboard pattern?

EDIT: I'm an idiot. All I had to do was flatten the image.
