I have done a little research on this, but since I trust the people on this forum I thought I would ask here just to confirm everything I've seen.
I have a fellow employee who is getting a new computer who will be using Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe in addition to other MS office applications like Powerpoint. We saw a preconfigured comp that has a 2.2ghz core2 with 2gb of ram and a 128mb video card, which I think is enough for her needs, but I wanted to check. A little bit of future-proofing is assumed.
My understanding is that Photoshop and Illustrator are far less impacted by the video card than they are by processor speed and RAM and that Photoshop/Illustrator can be run effectively with a fast processor and plenty of RAM even with only on-board video. She will have no need for programs that require 3D rendering, although she may do some occassional video editing.
I'm telling her that the money she would spend upgrading to a 256mb versus a 128mb should be put toward a larger, nicer monitor instead. Can you guys confirm that for her needs this computer would be enough? Thanks in advance. 🙂
