Hey guys, Im really into sports cars and im tryin to chop up my own background with a few of them together. I was wondering how you guys cut objects cleanly out of a picture? For example, Im trying to cut THIS MARANELLO out of its picture. All i want is the car and the undershadow of the car. Do you guys have any simple methods/tricks? The magnetic lasso sucks, and I usually just do "erase background" tool, works well, just takes a long time and a steady hand.

Is there something Im missing?

Any help would be awesome guys -

Image -> Extract

Use the Edge highlighter tool to....um....highlight the edges, and then fill the area you want to extract w/ the paint bucket(fill tool) You'll have to play w/ the brush settings to get it perfect, but it should be fun ;)

Good luck :)

Edit - also, once you've extracted it as best you can you can use the eraser and go along the edges to smooth it up

Use the Magnetic lasso to roughly highlight it, then use the regular lasso holding down Shift to push the line out where the hightlight cuts into the car, and Alt to push the line in where the highlight goes outside the edge of the car.

When you're adding/subtracting from the highlighted area you have to draw a loop around the portion that you want to expand/cut.

The extract method is probably the quickest easiest way other then the dirty magnetic lasso.

If you're using the magnetic lasso though, I prefer to use the polygonal lasso tool, and then the elliptical marquee tool.

On that maranello, after you cut it out, remember to go to Image => Adjustments => Selective color to take out the yellow reflections. You can always do a light source later to add the effect again.

EDIT: If you're a noob and don't know much... If you overselect, just Inverse selection *or Ctrl Alt I* and reselect the area you don't want and then inverse selection again.
