Photoshop and (getting rid of) transparency

How do I get rid of transparency in the background in either Photoshop or ImageReady?

Edit: I save it and uncheck the transparency box and that seems to work.. is there a way to get rid of it during editing?

Thanks richleader,

I also tried using the magic wand to highligt the transparent background and fill it with another color. That worked.

The only problem is if I try to import it to make a animated gif file, it seems to automatically add a transparent layer. In any case I'm only trying to help someone so it really doesn't matter. Thanks anyways.

The .gif files you are opening already have a transparancy color defined. That is why Photoshop is opening the files with a transparency layer.
