Hey PS gurus... I am in desperate need of help. I am totally new to this ICC color management thing, and it's driving me insane that in photoshop the colors look noticeably different from when I "Save to web..."
So what is going on?!?!? Please tell me how to get it so the colors in photoshop match the colors when i save to web...
Thank you!

I'm no Photoshop guru, but I'll try to help. When you're saving to web, you're probably saving it to a GIF file (which has 216 colors, I think?). If you want it to look more like what you're working with in Photoshop, try another compression method, like JPEG. The file will be larger because it can accomodate more colors, but it'll look more like what you want it to look like. Hope this helps.

There are a few things you can try.

Use the image's embedded color profile for the screen preview:
-- In the Save for Web dialog box, select a version of the image,
and choose Use Document Color Profile from the Preview menu.

or

preview the image in the monitor's RGB color space by doing one of the following:

-- Disable color management in Photoshop, and discard any color profiles embedded in the image:
1. Close any open Photoshop files.
2. Choose Edit > Color Settings.
3. Choose Color Management Off from the Settings pop-up menu, and then click OK.
4. Open the image in Photoshop. If the Embedded Profile Mismatch dialog box appears,
select Discard the Embedded Profile (Don't Color Manage), and then click OK.

-- Proof the image in the monitor's RGB color space in Photoshop:
1. In Photoshop, choose View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB.
2. Make sure that View > Proof Colors is selected.
3. If you want to preview the image in the Save for Web dialog box, select a version of the
image, and choose Uncompensated Color from the Preview menu. (Save for Web uses the last chosen preview setting.)

Here is an very well done explanation of Color Management Profiles.

THAT is what I need... I don't really want to just be able to preview it... I want to be able to edit in the colors that I want.. and yes, i do save them as JPGs.

YAY!! I found what settings I needed:

Settings = Custom
Advanced Mode > Checked

Working Specs
RGB > sRGB IEC61966-2.1 or Adobe RGB(1998)
CMYK > U.S. Web Coated(SWOP) v2
Gray > Gray Gamma 2.2
Spot > Dot Gain 20%

Color Managment Policies
RGB > Off
CMYK > Off
Gray > Off
(these all set to off will preserve files opened with embeded palletes.)

Conversion Options
Engine > Adobe(ACE)
Intent > Relative Clormetric
Use Black Point Compression > Checked
Use Dither > Checked

Advanced Controls
Desaturate Monitor Colors > unchecked
Blend RGB Colors > unchecked

In the colour Picker, when you select a WEB safe colour a little icon appears to confirm it. ;)
