Photos load slow in explore window

I am having a problem with my photos loading slow in my windows explore. If I go to my pictures and click on a folder it takes awhile to load the thumbnails of the pics and the floder freezes while they are loading. The more pics there are the more it freezes. The thumbs are also not the same size. Some are large, others small.

I am letting windows manage my paging file for me. This seems to be getting worse all the time.

I did a fresh format about a month ago. Any clues? I installed a few plugins for Photoshop but have it shut down. Even working off a CD it is slow.

Thanks for the help in advance.

If some thumbs are small, and some large it sounds like they are being resampled.

Try this: Blow away your thumbs database, reopen the window. Let it thumbnail everything again. Close and reopen and see if it runs fast.

You need more RAM. My old laptop with 512 RAM just couldn't take a folder with 6MP photos in it... loaded each pretty slowly.

Edit: NVM, just checked your rig, it shouldn't have this problem... very odd.

there is a hidden file in each folder called Thumbs.db (I'm pretty sure...I'm actually looking at a vista box right now).

Just delete the file (rename if you're paranoid).

Let us know how it goes.

Some of the folders don't have a thumbs.db file in it. Just jpeg files

Then let the .db build. Once complete the folder should open quickly.

how many files are you talking anyway? You get a few thousand in a flat folder and it's gonna be slow no matter what.
