I'm planning on getting a Bogen/Manfrotto 2900 Super Clamp with Standard Stud and a Giottos MH-1004 Mini Ballhead.

Before I put in the order, can someone verify for me that this combo will work?

I was actually considering the ClamperPod but it looks like the original ClamperPod only takes flat surfaces, while ClamperPod 2 only clamps on tubular surfaces. The Super Clamp works on both, plus it's backed by a good brand.

Just making sure if I'm making the right choices. Thanks!

Not sure if it'll work, but that looks ridiculously expensive for a clamp.

I know that I'm mostly paying for the brand.. but then there isn't much of a choice out there.

I'm sure you can mod a clamp from home depot or something. Adapt a metal rod to it so that the ball head can mount on.

What's wrong with a tripod?

BTW - it'll probably work. I bought a couple of those ballheads and those things are pretty sturdy little guys. I was using it for a flash unit though...not sure what camera you're using.

Mainly because a tripod is too bulky. I have a Canon G5.. but my main concern is if the ballhead will mate to the clamp with the stud thingy.

As for the price, it's not really a big concern since it's only like $10-$20 more than a ghetto setup. I think it's well justified.

I think it's a question better answered over at dpreview forums. I use a tripod, so I can't help ya (but I definitely hear ya on the bulk annoyance).
