So the past couple of weeks, my digital camera (Casio Exilim EX-S3) has been taking half fuzzy pictures, half normal pictures.

Pictures typically come out looking like this

then if you notice some other pictures like this, you'll notice that certain things are very much in focus (seemingly the closer objects).

Why is this occurring?

looks like the lens isnt focusing in low light very well, take some test shots in well lit areas

Almost looks like it trying to use macro focus and giving you a narrow Depth of Field.
English?

I'm definitely a "point-and-shoot" type photographer

hes saying that it loks like your camera is set to macro mode
its one of thoes pre set camera modes, most of them have that

I would say that your autofocus sensor has stopped working, but your camera apparently has a fixed focus. So basically...see if you can get the lens cleaned?

maybe the lens is really dirty? doesnt look like a focusing problem... you can observe that objects at similar distance from the lens are not equally in/out of focus...

To me this looks like either a dirty/dusty/fungused lense or an lense which has elements out of alignment. Could also be an aspherical delamination. If cleaning the lense doesn't work and the auto focus is locking in outdoors in bright light i'd say it's time for a trip to the shop....what kinda of camrea btw?

i really don't know how i'm going to get at the lens without a tool of some kind.... it's tiny (casio exilim ex-s3)

Rule 1 - My camera is acting funny. Change the batteries. If you are using rechargables, try some stock throw-aways to see if the problem goes away.

Since you did not mention it...

It's nothing to do with power..... plus it has a proprietary battery that gets recharged in a base.. not typical AA or AAA batteries
